1929 8 INCH EMERSON NORTHWIND MODEL 55A AC/DC VINTAGE ELECTRIC FAN
For your viewing pleasure is a restored 1929 ac/dc Emerson Northwind model 55A. It is a single speed non oscillator. The Emerson Electric MFG. Company began when Judge John Wesley Emerson and Alexander & Charles formed the company in St Louis. They started producing desk fans in 1891 and in 1897 marketed their first ceiling fan. The year 1922 saw them introduce the Emerson Jr. which was produced thru the 1930s. While the company phased out the Northwind and Emerson Jr. they introduced The Seagull, Sea Breeze, and the Silver Swan. In the late 1970s Emerson stopped making desk fans. Emerson is still in business today as a Worldwide Manufacturing and Technology Leader. The fan is 10 inches high, 9 inches wide, and done in a satin Ivory color. The brush type motor was disassembled, cleaned, inspected and oiled. The brushes are good and armature was polished to assure good contact with brushes. Motor bearings have no play. The fan was tested for over 2 hours and ran smoothly. There is a short video of the fan in operation in our Videos Section. A new period style cord and plug were installed. New Grommets and felt feet were also put on. Here are the specs: The Emerson Electric MFG. Co. St. Louis, Mo., Northwind, Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. Type 55A, 110 volts AC or DC, Made In The United States Of America. A highly collectable fan for the Vintage Electric Fan collector or can be used as a working Art Deco décor piece for the home or office.

RESTORED ART DECO 1934 8 INCH COPPER STERLING VINTAGE ELECTRIC FAN
For your viewing pleasure is a restored 8 inch single speed Sterling desk fan made by Chicago Electric Manufacturing. These were cheap little fans that were sold in dime stores and became to be known as dime store fans. The company began as an electrical supply house in 1902. As they grew they began to manufacture small household appliances such as irons, toasters, waffle irons, and fans. Their brands of electric fans included Handy Breeze, Sterling, Arctic, and Challenge. The company was bought out by The Silex Corporation in 1953. The fan is 10 ½ inches tall, 8 ½ inches wide, and is all metal construction. It is done in a hammerer Copper color along with hand painting the Art Deco lines in Silver. The steel guard and motor housing strip were hand polished, and the blade retains its original painted finish from the factory. It does have a few small areas of wear from age and usage. The motor was disassembled, cleaned, inspected, windings were revarnished and motor was oiled. The bearings are in good shape with no issues. A new old vintage cord was installed along with a new inline switch. This fan was tested for over 2 hours and operated smoothly and ran within manufacturer’s specs. (There is a Short Video of the fan in operation in our Video’s section). For a small vintage electric fan it does blow a nice breeze. This is a nice Art Deco period piece for a décor or for the avid vintage electric fan collector.
