Are old Fans Safe?
Hello everyone, you know I have been collecting Antique and Vintage Electric Fans for quite a while and through the years the one thing I’ve always heard is” Aren’t those things dangerous”, and the answer is No. They are no more dangerous than a toaster, blender, Mixmaster, or any other electric appliance. There are a few common sense things to do that will insure safe operation of your vintage electric fan.
The first thing is to put the fan high enough out of inquisitive children or pets. When you use a toaster you don’t put it where a young child can get at it. The same thing applies to an electric fan. Two, make sure you put it on something stable and not something wobbles or can be easily bumped into so it does not fall. Make sure there is enough room for the electric fan to oscillate and that it not bumping into something when sweeping back and forth. Always make sure the fan is far enough away from drapes and plants, so that they don’t get sucked into the spinning blades. If you go out somewhere turn the fan off. Oil the fan every 6 months. It just takes a few drops of oil and it is easy to do. I recommend Zoom Spout Oil which can be found at most any Hardware store. Doing these few simple things will insure a long and safe operation of your Antique or Vintage Electric Fan.
